Owner Surrenders
Second Chance Heroes is unable to take in owner surrenders. Our mission is to help rats in immediately urgent situations where their lives are in danger or if they are experiencing unsafe care or are extremely stressed. Our primary function is to get rats out of overwhelmingly stressful shelter environments and laboratories, or off the street when they have been set loose outside to get them into safety.

Small Title
Not spending an hour every day free roaming is better than hiding in fear at the shelter, not understanding why the humans who felt the most safe left them in a scary place.

Small Title
If you do not plan on having more rats and you are down to one last rat who is over the age of 1.5 years, they will be happier spending their remaining months spending time with the humans they love rather than experiencing the tumult of a huge life change. The average length of stay at SCH is around three months, which would mean that your rat could spend three of their last months alone, in a new place, with a revolving door of smells and sounds.

Small Title
If you are moving, your "small pets who live in cages" may be able to come with you. There are options.
